I'm planning to make a soap with olive oil, palm oil, coconut oil, shea butter and castor oil (my standard recipe). I want to scent it with a mixture of 10x orange, gingersnap, vanilla select and clove. I have some vanilla color stabilizer but I've never used it. My question is: how much should I expect the vanilla stabilizer to offset the color morphing from the fragrance? I'd like part of the soap to be off white and part to be colored (not sure which color yet). Is it too much to expect that I might get off white? Would TD help? Maybe I should make a straight 100% coconut oil batch???

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Peggy

I don't think changing to 100% coconut oil will change the effect of the vanilla morphing color. The stabilizer, the way I understand it, is supposed to keep the vanilla from turning everything quite brown. Adding TD would certainly make the white whiter, but it will also change your other colors, so perhaps just add it to plain batch to whiten it. So far my CP soap is olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, and castor oil. I only use vanilla in something that I want to color brown When my package arrives, I plan to use shea butter in my soap. I don't know that I've answered your question, but I hope I've helped.

Keep us posted!

If you need some to be white, or close to it, Jilly is right about not scenting that portion. Your 10x orange is still going to make your soap look more orange even if the vanilla color stabilizer works. Sounds like a nice scent blend!

PS The clove will accelerate your trace, as spice scents usually do.

Honestly, I'd divide the batch into 3 or 4 parts. Mix vanilla into one part, the orange into another, the other scents into a third, and maybe some titanium dioxide into a fourth, then swirl them all. That way you'll get streaks of different colors, showing lovely contrasts, and still have all the scents mingling together.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but I am wary using vanilla color stabilizer in my cp. The last time I used it my batch separated. Also, it doesn't hold off the discoloration indefinitely. VCS usually only works for about 4 to 9 months before your fragrance starts to discolor your soap anyway.

Any soap with a vanilla stabilizer will eventually discolor. It just slows down the process.
