Teach Soap

I am a newbie and getting obssesed with my new addiction .
I thought i would use my spare bedroom for the curing and storage but after only a few batches put in there the smell is driving everyone crazy. So I need to find a better location that has better air flow/ventilation. I live in the DC area so winter is closing in on us...would the garage be too cold/damp/dirty for curing? Where do you cure? any other suggestions?

I cure in my basement. It is heated though.

I store/cure mine in a spare bedroom, but keep the door closed. I haven't noticed the smell being too strong, but then again, that room is directly across from my 16 yr old son's room...so maybe the smells cancel each other out!

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Mine are in the Laundry. I keep the door closed all the time anyway (keep kids and kitties out), and on the nice days, I open the outside door to let a bit of fresh air in - handy when I use an over powering smell.

I cure mine in my laundry room also, but I don't get an overpowering smell. That room has an outside door and my older boys are in and out a good bit during the day, so maybe the fresh air flow keeps it from smelling too much.

Generally I don't have a problem... but when I used BB Toasted Rice I nearly gagged walking in there every time!

I have two batches curing in my linen closet. You can smell the honeydew melon all the way down the hall. Eventually I'm going to get a bakers cart that holds sheet pans and I'm going to cure the soaps on that - in the garage where air comes and goes. There are covers that can be bought for the type of rack/cart I'm talking about. That should take care of flying dust.

I'm sooo cramped in our tiny house....at this point, I put the soap where ever the heck I can find the space. I think I'm going to have to start invading my parents house. lol.

I store mine in the garage until they are ready to box up. Then they go in acid-free baseball card boxes in a chest of drawers.
