Has anyone ever used liquid activated charcoal instead of the powder? I find even when I mix my colorants in really well with the little blender I got from BB I occasionally have some little clumps. I was wondering if it was possible to use the liquid activated charcoal like you would use a liquid colorant.
Was just a thought that came to mind earlier while I was trying to come up with new ideas.

Thanks everyone in advance as I make myself crazy in my MAD scientist moment. :D

You mean a bought liquid or something that you make at home? You can mix it with glycerin or water. If you mix the charcoal with water, make it a little ahead of time, so the charcoal has had a chance to hydrate.

I was thinking along the lines of buying it already mixed up, I get so frustrated when I find little clumps of colorant. I mixed some ultramarine blue pigment the other day, using just a very small amount of OO as the carrier for it, and used the mini mixer, and still had little clumps. I want to do a black and white swirl CP and really want it to be smooth with out any clumps. The other day I was in the phamacy and saw the already mixed up activated charcoal, but hesitated to pick it up as I didn't know how it would react in the CP. So here I am asking before I do something I will regret as I am one to test first and hope for the best. I really don't want to waste my supplies if it wont work. I do love my mini mixer, it has made mixing SO much easier! :D

Ultramarine works the best for me mixed with water.

I will try that one next time. I was so upset when I saw all these little clumpies. At times they can add some charm to a bar, like some frogs I did with MP. Everyone loved them, kept asking me how I did the color like that? I was in no way shape or form going to tell them, "well the colorant didn't mix in well enough" lol. Live and learn. I keep telling my House mates "Hey BE HAPPY! I haven't blown us up yet have I?!"

I believe what you are seeing is the activated charcoal that is mixed with sorbitol. This is meant to have on hand for an accidental poisioning. I think the sorbitol may create problems with the soaping process itself, but have never tried this. Now a warning: even though this is sold over the counter never use it unless directed by a doctor or poison center. There are side effects, and further treatment is necessary. Also it does not bind with all substances! The sorbitol is in there as a laxitive, to help the body 'get rid' of the poision as quickly as possible.

I have held off on buying any activated charcoal until I can get the correct items. I found a local supplier who does very large bags for a very reasonable price, who also has another soaper he supplies to. I can't wait to start trying some pretty black swirls. I happily also unpacked another box from my move and found my tub of black oxide from BB and sat happily beaming last night. Then hollered to my family I KNEW I HAD SOME!!! They all laughed at me.

one of the things that I have learned is that spritzing the clumps with alcohol will help break them up.
