Teach Soap

I am gonna try to make the lotion using the recipie on the soap queen's blog except I dont have the oils she calls for. What is a good substitute for avacado oil. I have peach kernel, apricot kernel, and olive ( If grocery store olive is ok I will use that, If not I have pomace that I use for soapmaking ). The recipie is as follows
18oz. Water
1.2 oz. shea
1.7 oz. Sweet almond ( subbing with either the peach or apricot )
1 oz. avacado oil
1.2 oz ewax
1 oz. steric acid
.2 oz phenonip
also is it safe to use the same stick blender i use for making soap? I also plan on cutting this recipie in half

You can sub one liquid oil for another. If you will be making a small recipe, convert it to grams. Make sure that you have an accurate scale for the preservative. If you use too much preservative it can irritate. Use too litle and nasties can grow quickly.

Ok I am terrible at math. Could someone convert this into % for me please.
255g water
17g shea butter
24g apricot kernel oil
14g peach kernel oil
17g ewax
14g steric acid
3g phenonip

Also if this comes out to thick and I want to add more water I know I need to add more preservative. So if I add 10% more water how many grams would that be and what would I need to up the preservative to g wise?

Here's your percentages

75% water
5% shea butter
7% apricot kernel oil
4% peach kernel oil
5% ewax
4% steric acid
.9% phenonip

I can't really answer your question about if it comes out thick but with 75% water, it shouldn't come out thick. I don't think it would be a good idea to add more water after emulsification but I could very well be wrong. To answer your question about the stick blender, I use the same one for my lotions that I use for my soap. I just wash it really well when I'm done with either and make sure it's super clean before I start.

Thanks so much The only reason I asked about the stick blender is I know not to use it for food after soapmaking just wasnt sure about anything else.

With 20% lipids, sure, it'll be thick! The formula reminds me of the first hand cream I made. Probably it will be a 'heavy - heavy' cream. It will have a luxurious feeling but will take a while to absorb, but when it does, should leave the skin feeling smooth, flexible, hydrated. Continued use should reduce photo-age spots and improve the complexion.

Made this today and although I like it it is alot thicker than I expected. To thin it out some would I be better off to increase the water or decrease the steric acid?

Just increase the water, but remember: you will need to adjust one or two things that must remain as fixed percentages. Such as, obviously, the preservative. I advise making a simple Excel spreadsheet and then you can quickly and easily adjust the weights of ingredients.

Since you are already using 5% e-wax, I would leave the stearic acid out.
