For real, I just could NOT believe the conversation I had just now....talked to a lady on the phone, she called me about a goat question and the topic ran on to soap making...with goats it often does...

She told me she SMOKES IN HER HOUSE AND STORES HER SOAPS IN HER HOUSE AND SELLS THEM! UGH! YUCK!

I am not dissing smokers, I don't care, they are you lungs after all...BUT...don't smoke where you produce product and DO NOT sell it to the public!

I was just amazed...doesn't the smell from the smoke affect the soap I would think? Don't the chemicals from the cigarettes affect your soaps as well? Why would you sell something "natural" from an environment like that?

I just don't get it....not trying to start any controversy...just wondering if anyone else thinks it's okay I guess...because it bothered me for some reason...

That's not ok! It makes me wonder if her soaps smell like cigarettes too.

She probably never thought about it from a potential customer's point of view - especially a nonsmoker. :o

I would think so...I almost asked her to send me some so I could find out...

The remark came about because I said something about needing to get off the phone to go clean my house so I could make soap "I don't want to soap in a filthy house" I said and she went off about "Don't worry....."

OMG....I was just floored...she also told me "just sell that soap girl, no one cares how old it is".....riiiigghhhtt...sure, but I care. Apparently she began selling it "2 weeks after she made her first batch and hasn't stopped since then".

I don't think she cares...her last words were "people can't tell so I don't tell" when I said "I just don't feel right making things when my house is dirty" I just was amazed...amazed....

So I took a pass on the samples...but I was tempted to ask for some just to see if it was stinky or smelled okay...

BTW: she is NOT getting one of my babies this winter either...just saying...no goats FOR her and no soap FROM her...

Makes you wonder if she smokes around her goats too. Poor babies.

It is sad she cares so little for the quality of her product or the customers who use it.

Her name wouldn't happen to be Nancy, is it? LOL
Reading the description of her I thought of Nancy Today, although I don't know if Nancy smokes.

I'm not a smoker and I never have been, so I really dislike buying things online only to get them and they smell like smoke. I hate having to air something out before bringing it into my house.

I'd rather have animal hair in my soap then have it smell like cigarettes.

Just have to add, I recently did buy some wax melts online and when I got them there was what I'm hoping was black animal hair embedded in them.

Eww! Why would someone sell something with hair in it?

If I found hair in a product I bought, I would ask for a refund.

LOL...NO...her name is NOT Nancy...I won't go all public on her like that...

And...hair happens...coming from some of the work I have done in my life, it just happens. I of course try my hardest to keep MY hair on MY body and head and out of stuff I cook, create, etc...but it happens...I'll ask for a replacement, but I don't stress over it too much...Hair is everywhere in life, and at least is i NATURAL!

I would ten times over prefer hair to smoke smell that's for sure...Now what you had on those wax melts, THAT sounds gross and not natural...like dirty house gross....

When I'm making things, I wear this: http://www.buffusa.com/collections/5 Love my Buff. I wear them in the beeyard, too, to keep the hair out of my eyes and the bees out of my hair. Love, love, love.

As I was cleaning and disinfecting the countertops in my basement kitchen before making balms the other day, I thought to myself how much more attentive I am to cleaning my soaping/balm making stuff than I am the kitchen where I cook my family's meals. Hmmm.

I won't even buy something from ebay unless I ask if it's from a non-smoking household. Our church is having a yard sale this weekend and several boxes of donated items came from smoking households and everything in them reeked. One of the ladies took the clothes home and laundered them before putting them with the rest of the clothes. Yuck.

I have pets and before I even begin making soap, I dust and vacuum to get all the loose hair up. Then I change clothes so there's no stray hairs on me. I store my supplies in covered bins and in a dresser and my curing racks are in the extra bedroom so I can keep the door closed and the pets out. I do not want anyone to find a pet hair in my soap!
