Hi Ladies :)

Been awhile since i posted on here but have been reading in the background! Now i'm in need of some help.

Some time ago I put my name down for a soap swap here in NZ (exciting!!!) & the theme is Halloween. Now this is a really minor thing, not even a holiday in NZ & I think it's much bigger in the US? Have asked various people what they think of with halloween in regards to colours & scents etc & no luck. Orange & black seem to be the only colours & no-one has any ideas about scents! or halloween in general

So any information you girls would like to share would be much appreciated.
Only thing I can think of is adding pumpkin to the soap :? & perhaps spice fragrances (is pumpkin pie at halloween time?)(boring eh!)
Have no ideas regarding design, additives, & no idea at all about scents! HELP!!! :D (was awake one night trying to figure out how to make a ghosty embed through a log of soap  )

Will be putting an order in to BB in the next couple of days, so any strongly recommended fo's can hopefully be shipped then. :D Just a minor excuse!

In the meantime I will continue my mad googling!

Thanks in advance

Halloween is HUGE over here!
Think scents like Witches Brew, anything from the Twilight movie, candy corn, chocolate (lots of chocolate given out!), candy or caramel apple, apple, spicy, dry autumn scents (leaves, etc).

Last year I did bats flying over a moon...scented with earl grey tea to the moons and patch for the sky. The bats were melt and pour, unscented. There is a photo in the show off your soaps gallery either sept or oct of last year.
This year I will do the spider webs. Have not choosen a scent, but I like the earl grey. This is from a project Ann Marie did on her soap queen blog...check it out by using the search feature...I do not have the link on my laptop.
If you need simple just do a 3 layer, white-yellow-orange, use a sweet scent, but be careful of that vanilla or your candy corn will be brown.

The candy corn and spider webs look very fun to make - easy, but clever too!

I was thinking after I saw the spider web you could do a ghost very similar, like the spider web thing....use the black/white to draw the outline of the ghost, then drag and feather out the bottom so his bottom is all wispy like...ghosts always make me think of halloween!

I shoulda started soaping years ago so I could join in the fun, but I am no where near that level of cool yet so I don't have much input, but I look forward to seeing what you make! Good luck and post pics for sure!

Colors: Any shade of autumn. Oranges, yellows, browns, faded/muted greens. The colors of pumpkins, squashes, corn (maize), leaves turning to other shades, cocoa (actual cocoa, blended in or as a pencil line), black (charcoal pencil line, perhaps? maybe black African soap, if you can find a recipe, and if you can, please post it here!).

Treatments: If you do swirl soaps, consider using these muted, autumnal colors with a very small amount of a brighter color like a brilliant pink, magenta, or fuchsia, or a lovely blue, ultramarine, turquoise, or bright purple. It will set off the colors, keep them from looking too dull. Then again, spring colors are better if your soap swap is taking place entirely within the Southern Hemisphere, for obvious reasons. If that's the case, do the opposite: brilliant or pastel floral colors, with the small addition of something brighter or darker or more muted in order to set off the main color scheme.

Scents: Candy, chocolate, pumpkin, spices used for pumpkin pies.

Additional: Add a bit of actual pumpkin or carrot for the color and the vitamins. Green tea color and actual tea. Calendula and/or turmeric and/or saffron for color, texture, and skin nutrition.

Thanks so much! Realized a couple of things, it's spring here for halloween, no wonder no-one identifies the scents you all do!

Have no idea what half the things you all have listed are, so will get googling & learning at the same time! :D

Bubbles your bats soap sounds awesome, I'll definately check it out!

Thanks for the links to the SoapQueen Blog, I love that place! Though most of them are M&P it's still ideas, & I did think if I can't create the loaf I want to, I could always do the cobweb style thing, should be pretty easy, I'd just like it to be a little more challenging! The others in this swap have been soaping for yonks, & I've feel I've got something to prove!

As for pics, yes, it is time I joined all those those excellent soaps (mine won't be!) in the show-off thread!

Really old I know & Halloween was ages ago but here's the pic finally! (just got brave enough to open a photobucket account!)

Actually had no pics so took one of a really skinny end I chopped off then broke! So yeah, not the best! & the top had mica sprinkled on it & you can't see that either. Oh yeah, it has pumpkin puree in it, original eh!

Image

Lots went wrong but basically a long cat embedded in a log of soap, in case you couldn't tell :D
