Because A) my hand is NUMB from the stick blender and B) HOT from said blender because it is TIRED like me! LOL...I'm just being honest...I've been blending for AT LEAST 10 minutes....do I need to blend more or give up? I'm actually walking away while said stick blender takes a break....any thoughts? Have I missed something here?

ETA: APPARENTLY...what it takles for ME is to REMEMBER to put the stupid milk in it! THEN it starts to look like SOAP!!!

HAHAHAHAH!!!! I HAVE DONE IT! maybe ....we'll see in a couple of months right?

Some recipes take longer than others. Mine are high in OO so they take about 10-15 min to reach trace. I do let mine sit for about 5 minutes then go blend a little more.

the answer is posted above....thanks tho ya"ll! All I had to do was remember the MILK! I now have ALMOST soap...from my goats :) Could not have made it this far without MUCH lurking here and a few questions! Thanks again! I'll get pics in a few days once I unmold it and cut it up for ya....we'll see if it LOOKS like soap at least at that point!

And I think it MAY be turning into "not soap" already...BUT...it's okay :) WE'll walk away from it now while it rests and see what we get later right? Just keep your fingers crossed for me that I have something looking like soap tomorrow afternoon when I check back on it....

I'm so confused LOL Were you just stirring the oils and hadn't put in the milk/lye combo yet?

I dunno myself...but see here's what I did...my recipe PER THE SOAP CALCULATOR said to use 18oz of water (going by memory now, but I DO have it written down somewhere in the kitchen)...I KNEW I wanted to use milk...but NOT frozen milk and all that hassle...I mean, c'mon now, it's straight from the goat 'round here! So...anywho....

said recipe also contained around 8oz of lye (yes I was far more accurate when I was weighing it)...

SO...what had happened was...I got my oils all melty (coconut oil, crisco and sunflower oil) and THEN in a DIFFERENT pot...I put in equal amounts of lye and water (being that with 8oz of lye and 8oz of water I would still be in need of 10 oz of my milk...)

THEN I mixed that into the oils, which DID change color and consistency but were NOT getting anythicker.....

I sat down...begged for help...and BAM it hit me like a ton of manure out in the yard on goat pen cleaning day! I FORGOT the STUPID MILK! Which I had intended to add AFTER the lye/water mix.....

So I went in...added it...and BINGO! MAGIC IN MY KITCHEN! It LOOKED like soap! SO...into my mold...and into the outside fridge where I could A) ignore it and B) it would be outta the house in case it blew up...because I was afraid I was gonna blow something up...

Then I couldn't help peeking...and it had kinda gone back "clear" looking? I dunno how to explain it...so I left to run errands, came home, fed, milked, and THEN I peeked again as I was putting away my eggs and it LOOKS like soap again mostly....

So...I dunno....I ain't not saying I got me some soap....but I THINK I may have me some soap! Does ANY of that make sense? Can ya'll tell I am SUPER DUPER jazzed and excited about this? I'm gonna go do some laundry and THEN maybe make one more batch before I call it quits on the farming for the day....I'll let ya know how THAT turns out if I get around to it...

I can SURE see how this soap stuff is addictive as heck though! It's like magic I tell you!

When you peeked and it was kind of clear looking sounds like your soap was gelling. Leave it be for now and check it tomorrow.
