Teach Soap

Occasionally when I use lard in soap, it's been the same type of lard. I recently purchased a different type and am concerned with some of the additives. I've had good luck with the old lard, which I can no longer find in stores (a local brand). I purchased Armour brand lard that has BHA & BHT preservatives as well as citric. I've never used Armour before and was hoping someone here had experience with it. I'm ashamed to also that I have a background in a hard science but am not familiar with BHA or BHT. Could someone please shed some light on Armour if you've used it and the BHA BHT additives.

Yup, same here! And I've got the Armour brand stuff as well- formulating recipes is going to be fun!

I guess I'll be the guinea pig and try it this evening. I'll send you guys and PM to let you know how it turns out.

BHT is a synthetic anti-oxidant. It is comprised of the chemical butylated-hydroxy-toluene. It's there to help the Lard keep fresh and not break down and go rancid. It's about 1% usage rate typically so it shouldn't throw your soap into a tailspin or anything (in theory!). I can't wait to see your report.
