Teach Soap

Yesterday I made 2 batches of soap, both with BB's GM base. The only thing I added to one was FO, the other was FO and shredded loofah. Today on lunch they weren't budging coming out of the molds so I popped them in the freezer for 10 mins or so, then they came out. I got home from work tonight (about 5 hrs later) and my soaps are all damp like. ( I assume that is sweating) It was warm here today, but not as hot as it had been. Is it just because I put them in the freezer? I wrapped them in saran wrap, should I have not done that until they dry? It's so disappointing, I could just cry

If there's any humidity where you are, MP soaps can sweat. Can you wipe it off and wrap them?

It definately happens more easily if you put them in the freezer. I would have waited to wrap them, if you can unwrap them and wipe them then you might be able to save it. Good luck!

How would I go about wiping them? I have read that MP can sweat, but this is the first time I have had it happen and it has been a lot hotter and more humid when I made other batches.

You could use a towel, I prefer paper towel though because I don't have to worry about fluffies sticking to my soap, and just kind of dab at them...if you actually wipe you might get marks.

Hi, Michelle. The sweat on the soap is probably condensation from the freezer. I try not to put molds in the freezer for that reason, but sometimes it is necessary in order to get stubborn soap out of the mold. If the soap is sweaty after I take it out of the freezer, I usually unmold the soaps and then let a fan blow on them until the moisture is wicked away, turning them every once in a while so the fan hits all of the sides. When they're dry, then I wrap them in plastic wrap.

Soaps can also sweat if they're left unwrapped in humid conditions. If it's just a little bit of glycerin dew, you can carefully wipe it away with your finger, just be careful not to leave smudges or streaks. If the surfaces get dulled or smudgy from wiping, you can spritz them with a bit of rubbing alcohol and then smooth the surface with your finger.
