Teach Soap

Uh oh! I swiped a scrap of my latest batch of Herb Garden. It is a huge favorite of my testers, especially my Mom! She grabs 6 bars at a time for herself. Anyway, this batch just doesn't smell the same. It's not bad, it's similar but different. Then I remembered I had to open a new bottle of patch eo to make it. Soapbuddy somewhere had mentioned her aged patch stash. The old bottle had sat for over a year before I started using it so could this aging be the difference? The recipe, soaping temps, etc all the same as before. Mom is going to be unhappy that it's different.

I'm no expert but if you followed everything to the letter like you usually do, the aged Patch just might be the problem! Who knows, maybe mom might like the difference!

Aged patch smells different than new patch.
Was it the same supplier? If not that can make a difference & when and how it was extracted can make a difference as well.

There are so many things that can affect the way eo's smell

The eo supplier was BB for both bottles of patch. I'm giving Mom some bars today so my fingers are crossed!

by testing you mean your personal testing in products or qualified independent testing in the lab?

Personal testing. Although I guess you could have them tested by a lab as well. But that might get expensive.

Well aged Patch will definitely smell different then new.

Wow, who knew??? Maybe playing with scents for awhile has changed my nose. One of my testers grabbed up 6 bars (it's also her fave) and my Mom snapped up the rest I had brought. Amazing but neither one seemed to notice a difference! The real test will be when they use the bars but I am so relieved.
