Can I use a double boiler to heat a large batch of my soap and keep it warm while I just use a little at a time or will it ruin it?

Yup. I used a stock pot on the stove top on low over the weekend to keep mine warm.

Ok so as long as it is on low and just barely keeping it warm I'll be fine. I want to make sure the heat doesn't touch the pan that the soap is in though right?

I would heat it for the shortest possible time so the soap doesn't dry out.

Soapbuddy could I do that if I kept a lid on it or would it still dry out?

I went through 15kgs of soap over the weekend for my upcoming markets. I did it in 3 batches. I would cube it up, melt it down on high and once it was MOSTLY melted, I would pull it off the heat and stir until it was all melted. Then I would pop it on a different element (I was using the stove top) and have it on the lowest (keep warm) setting. I would pop the lid on if it was going to sit for more than 10 minutes, but I was pretty much just working through the batch until it was gone.

I did it this way to save my microwave from blowing up lol. So mine never really sat there for long. I melted - did all the soaps I could - turned it off. Twice on Sat and once on Sun and I got all my soaps done.

I only do double boiler method of soap even though I not have a mircowave. I use it to do some detailed work like the rainbow soap. nice to know I can keep the melt soap hot while I work with part of the soap for detail work.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I did plan on using it all that I had warm but for the details is where I was wondering and then for the main layer that would take all the rest. I will give it a try and make sure to use the lid. :)
