Has anyone ever used this? I made some soap this morning with it hoping to get a pretty pink and ended up with a weird greyish green. Just wondering if it always did this.

It said to mix with a little glycerin to acheive a pink color but didnt specify CP or MP. Guess i'll try it in MP and see what happens!

Ha didnt turn the MP pink either  Turned it a muted greenish blue. Oh well not a bad color it wont go to waste just dissapointed since it turns a wonderful magenta color when you add the glycerin. The CP soap has now turned to a beigeish color.

The colors in flowers that are either red or blue are generally Anthocyanins which are very much pH sensitive. The high pH of soap be it MP or CP would easily destroy the color. Red cabbage for example is colored with Anthocyanins and the color that the cabbage comes out (varying between purple and red) is directly related to the pH of the soil in which it was grown. All in all I can't imagine any flower color of the red or blue variety lasting in soap. Certain yellows and oranges might as they come from carotenoids which aren't so pH sensitive.

Sadly it will turn tan to brown over time.

Where did you get this stuff from? I noticed NG has whole hibiscus flowers in their new herbs and things, had thought about getting some for tops. That and the elder flowers, Hawaiian black salt (I saw someone use that in a dessert on Chopped on Food Network this week), and frankincense tears (for Xmas). Anyone have any experience with those? Or have your eye on any of the new stuff over there?

Thanks, Apo. Good information for future soaping. Wonder what they meant to be colored with the hibiscus flower powder and glycerin slurry?
