Okay, just started a new job last month and I'm an employee. The owner (and doctor) kinda expects me to run this as I'm an independent contractor. (trust me I've thought of it) Buuuuutttttt, he's not really into the whole 'marketing' thing so I need some help to boost the massage buis side of things. So how do you market yourself? I don't have a budget. really. So I need to spend as little money as possible on this. Needless to say this job wasen't quite what I was expecting but I currently have to roll with what I got. Have to pay the rent you know. (And please don't tell me to quite, I really actually want to learn how to do this so I can become and Ind Contractor.)

I know a lot of folks who market their businesses via word of mouth and facebook.

In addition to what Hesty said, get yourself some business cards printed (Vistaprint has great deals) and start handing them out. Give them to friends to hand out, too. Leave some in the waiting room. Are there any health fairs near you? Maybe you can leave your cards there?

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I got business cards discount cards printed and left a bunch at each local office supply store, card store, anywhere really that allowed cards to be displayed. I also put some up at local bulletin boards.

I have been doing that. Posting on FB everyday as part of my morning routine. Although I didn't think about leaving the cards in some of places listed. I'll go out and do that today. Any other ideas? I work right accross from a library and a transite center. LOTS of people come and go and we've had few walk-ins just from that.

I have a friend who used Groupon. While the Groupon itself was not income producing, it created new repeat customers, which did generate income.

It kind of depends on the type of massage you do. I run the front office of my mom's massage office. She use to work in a chiropractor's office before getting her own place. She does more therapeutic, deep tissue and sports massage though. Hooking up with a chiropractor and giving each other referrals would be good if you do more therapeutic massage. We were also located near a bike shop and asked to put some cards in there. Sometimes we also go to health fairs. Recently, we paid a little bit of money to put our logo on the back of a shirt for the fire and police department's fundraiser. Massage is difficult to "sell" just online. You have to get out in the community and let people know you're there.
