I'm just messing around with some sizes. Mine are 3.5" long and 2" high. The next batch will be higher...maybe 2.5". I've made some bars 1", 1.25" and 1.5" thick. I think the 1.5 is too thick. It feels chunky. What do you prefer? :D

I have small hands so anything over 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/2" tall and 1 1/2" wide is way too big and annoying to use in the shower because it slips out of my hand.

I have everywhere from small guest sized bars up to gigantic mammoth bars (3 X 2 X 2). I don't really have a preferred size, guess because I just grab the bar and rub one side on my bath puff thingy. I should probably ask my testers which size they prefer... hrrrrrmmm. Thanks for the idea!

Glad someone posted this thread. I am wanting to play with size/shape of my bars as well. Hubby made my molds and they are 12x3.5x3.5 and I've been cutting the bars 3/4" to 1" thick. They seem so big, I haven't had any complains(so far). So I am thinking cutting the width in half and making the thickness a little bigger to get the weight I am after.

So does 3.5x1.75.1.5 sound like a good size?

1.75 seems awfully short. I suggest getting some graph paper and folding pages to different sizes using a ruler to get your measurements - you can fold it to give you the top and all the shorter sides for just a size comparison. My bars are usually 3.5w x 2.5h and usually 1 inch thick. In fact, my bars seem awfully small at 1 inch thick, but I haven't tested any other widths really and I haven't weighed any yet.

Edit: Didn't finish my thought process. Once you have a couple of sizes that look good to you folded out, then you can cut some bars to those sizes and see what the weights are.

My favorite bars are circles, but I have not found a circle mold (without being individual molds) that I want yet. Right now I mostly do 2.5" t x 3.25"w and 1" thick. Sometimes I will go up to 1 1/2" thick if I want a heavier bar. I would think that there would be a limit on how wide and tall to make it or the soap will not fit in someone's hand as Genny said. If someone has a commerical bar of soap it would be interesting to weigh and measure it.... for comparison.

the bars I've made that are 3.5 x 2 x 1 are dead on 4 ozs. That's a new bar. This is informative. Thanks

Mine are 3.5 x 2.5 x 1 inch and I generally get a cured weight of 4 oz. This seems to be a good size for most people.
