Teach Soap

Speaking of soap calc. and olive oil,if you run recipe with 100 % oo,you will get the soap resulting with no bubbles, too soft ,no cleansing abilities,and other under-,or over -ranged parameters.
I've always been asking myself why would anyone use a soap if he cannot wash and if there's no bubbling lather?

100% olive oil soap is very good at cleansing and has plenty of lather. This is one of the reasons we take what soap calc etc. say about properties with a grain of salt. It isn't always right.

I make castile 100% olive soap and it doesn't have much lather. I don't think it's suppose to. I don't care for it myself as I find it kind of slimey.

I have plenty of time for neat things like the 8 colour faux funnel. That one was 40% palm.

I haven't had trouble with palm oil accelerating trace, but the palm kernel oil flakes do it for me. That said it's not something I ever do at more than 10% so not unmanageable unless your fragrance/essential oil accelerates trace too. Interesting how we get different results. Pomace olive doesn't accelerate trace on me but it definitely isn't slow to saponify like olive oil. Makes me want to experiment more!

Maybe the difference is the relationship of the differing brands we use? I guess when you find what works for you, you should stick with it huh?

You know what? A revelation just hit me last night!
I modified oil amounts for my soap and increased palm oil to 40%. Then,I decided to use sunflower oil (cold pressed,unrefined). As it doesn't say on the label if it's high oleic (can it be seen by its appearance?), I took it as if not, and replaced with olive oil (pomace) in amount 50-50%.
It's incredible how hard was to get the batter thickened.
I was surprised! Adding f.o. didn't change much. I had to sb like never before.

Now I know what tactics I will be using for achieving fancy swirls!

Hrm, I have both. I'm not 100% sure which I used in the 8 colour batch. My notes for that one are sadly lacking for a scientist I believe it was PKO.

Thanks, Hestey! I was curious because I've been using PKO instead of CO at 30% in a couple of recent batches and they have been pretty speedy. I tend not to use a lot of palm in my formulations (or sometimes none at all) but I have read that it doesn't speed trace.
