I had to go all over town to find my cheese cutter yesterday, and it seems that people always thought I meant the fancy little knives. The one I bought was actually labeled cheeseboard.

And I would think you'd probably need to slice it within the first day or two, unless your recipe produces an extremely hard bar right out of the mold. Then I am not sure I would even test the wire lol.

I sliced a super hard loaf on mine that sat for over a week. Went just fine! The wire didn't get damaged at all!

Those cheese slicers were made to cut through 'hard cheese' so they should hold up. At times they may break (everything weakens with age) and can be replaced.

So, do people just spray with rubbing alcohol right after they are cut to get the shiny look? Does that affect shelf life at all? (I only make soap for my family a couple of times a year.)

I also bought my cheeseboard on ebay, but I bought a marble one. Should have gone with wood. The loaf slides around too much on marble. I just HAAADDD to be fancy.
