Whats the worst that could happen? Can the soap still be used?

Depends how much it overheated. I had one soap that overheated and separated. No amount of mixing helped keep it together. That one ended up in the trash.

hmmm... Im pretty sure the entire mold overheated, but I have only just "opened" it up, I havent unmolded it yet or checked to see how soft it is. I was planning on just cutting it up tonight anyway. There were tiny air bubbles all over the surface, but I specifically tapped all the air out of this one. New one for me, I havent had an overheat yet. I used an 5X Orange EO for the first time added to a recipe that already worked for me. I will take a photo tonight to post and see what you guys think.

Did you put this batch in the oven or did you insulate it with something? The air bubbles can be from overheating, since there is still air in the soap or from a stick blender that introduces air into it.

It was a hot day on Saturday, so I made the soap at night, and I wrapped the batch in towels but over the next day it did end up sitting in the hot afternoon sun for a couple of hours I didnt have a proper lid for the mold, so I just covered the surface with saran wrap Here's what it looks like

But, at least it looks like my in the pot swirl worked!

Definitely overheated. I would not insulate it at all next time. Some essential oil or fragrances can make the batch overheat. The cut soap looks fine.

I am guessing that it was the 5X orange! It cut up just fine though. I will test for zap in a couple of days. I was going for that dark color, so Im happy with it for now. As long as it doesnt fall apart on me.

This is a newly formulated recipe, but the orange (plus clove, ylang ylang and bergamont) was the only new oil I have tried. I wonder then if overheating was caused by it sitting in the afternoon sun on my kitchen table. I have closed the blinds now, so hopefully that wont happen again LOL

I think I am going to make this recipe again, but I will put it in the freezer to see what the difference is. Thank you,soapbuddy, for all your super helpful advice and knowledge!
