Teach Soap

I made my first castille soap 9 weeks ago and everything went just peachy. Its rock hard, doesn't feel very slimey and actually has a nice lather to it. Just used it for a hand wash test and it feels drying to me! Isn't it supposed to be extremely gentle? I superfatted at 8%. I can't even remember what brand olive oil I used because it has been used up entirely. I do know that I got it from the grocery store and it was a sale buy. I know theres alot of olive oil out there that could be mixed with other oils so could this be the culprit? Does anyone else experience dry castille or am I just crazy? Please help!!!

Castile needs to age for at least 4-6 months before it becomes really nice. It could be that your bar is just too "new" still. It almost sounds like it might have another oil mixed with it since 100% olive oil doesn't usually lather much at all.
An 8% superfat certainly shouldn't leave you feeling dried out. I would set it aside for a few more weeks and try it again to see if it's improved.

I just tried a Castille I made 4 months ago - almost no lather and the surface of the bar got super slimy. But my skin did feel really nice afterwards. Also SF at 8%, 40% lye solution.

Thanks guys! It must be the oil then because I have lather...bubbles and everything! Not a ton but its there. I wanted to get rid of the olive oil I had on hand and just buy from BJ's (just like Sams) so I would have a consistant oil so I'm going to try again with that oil. Its Fellipo Berio brand...anyone use this brand or know of anything bad about it? I know I read a list about the good oils and bad oils but I can't remember where! Was it here or another forum? Any links would be great if anyone has them. Thanks all!

If you get bubbles from castile it's most likely adultarated.

Thanks soapbuddy! That's what I'm leaning towards. I'm going to do a small batch with my other oil and see what happens.
