Hi everyone!

My family is big into camping, and I wanted to make some bug repellent soap for us. I searched the forum, and found some remarks about such a soap, but no recipes. Citronella EO is on sale at Brambleberry this month, so I was going to get some and give it a try. Anyone have any recipes they like for this? I can always just melt some soap and add the Citronella EO, but I was hoping someone had a more interesting recipe!

Can't help you with a recipe, but please be sure to check the safe useage rates for citronella EO.

I'm not sure that a bug repellent soap would be very effective since it gets washed off. Maybe a bug repellent lotion or solid lotion might be better.

We stopped using citronella in candles and other bug repellent things because we were having too many problems with it attracting bees. We've found more success in avoiding mosquitos by tieing generic brand fabric softener sheets to our clothes before going outside.

I've heard tea tree oil is a good EO for bug repelling, but I've never tried it myself.

You don't need a lotion recipe. Make a lotion bar.

I don't have my notes in front of me, but I believe I used cat mint in mine when I went to Tahiti.

Lighter oils like sweet almond are less greasy feeling than olive oil, but you can pretty much use whatever you have one hand.

I checked the Soap Queen Youtube channel but couldn't find a lotion bar video. She does have a number of lotion bar tutorials on her blog although nothing for specific for bug repellent stuff.
