I just got a copy of Failors liquid soap book... and with just a light reading I can tell alot of this is already out of date. I wish how to books could be updated every few years. Maybe with E-books this will be done in the future. She still has good base information but you are right about the high amounts of coconut. I am going to give this a go as soon as I can get some KOH ordered and find myself a crockpot. I was glad to hear on the forum that we can superfat a little as I really did not want to have to do borax.
So Mellifera how did the liquid coconut soap do as a dish soap? I am wondering if making a liquid soap with all coconut would also work as laundry detergent... then I may also want to do the borax additive as not superfatting would be good.

Debbie, I was just a little cautious, noted she pictured wooden spoons to stir with and also talked about transferring the mixture into a traditional blender or food processor to mix. My gut instincts tell me these are not good ideas. And although I have not read every word of this book... I am wondering why it is so necessary to achieve clear liquid soap? That seems the only reason for having to make a lye heavy soap and then bring it back with boric acid. To me this may be an unnecessary step. I have alot more reading and research to do....

I make LS with 2% superfat. I get clear soap and don't use borax.

Thanks Irena,,, that is where I will start once I finish reading, researching and get some supplies. This soap making thing is quite a journey. I thought because I love making the bar soap my DH would maybe want to learn\do the liquid soap part but no - hes not interested so I will.

why do people add glycerin to liquid soap, doesn't it make it's own?

Is the glycerin added during the cook or to the water used for dilution after the soap paste is made?

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

You can use it in place of water or during dilution, according to the Failor book. I haven't tried it yet.
