I've read that GM soap can have a smell when cut. But WOW I was not expecting my awesome scented soap to REEK! Yuck! How long does it usually take for the stink to go away? Will post picks in a few days, needs to harden up some more... even though it gelled. Blarg.

That ammonia like smell should go away in about a week or less.

Hmmm. I didn't find that mine smelled, but maybe the honey scent is covering it.

I get a very faint smell when I first cut it with my soaps, but it's gone after 24 hours...

Heather,
I'm with you! I made my first GM batch a week or so ago, and YUCK! Hubby almost made me throw the whole thing out it was nasty smelling (I had scented with Lavender eo). However, after writing here to the board and listening to the advice (thank you, ladies/gents!), I gave it a bit of time and it is much better :). I had only cut a few bars at the first cutting and they are smelling better. Yesterday I cut the rest of the loaf and it too had the yucky scent, but I'm hoping it too will pass :). I have to say, the cut texture is much smoother than my other CP bars and I'm excited to give it a try! My daughter has pretty bad eczema and the poor girl just LOVES pretty soaps (you know....the ones with beautiful swirls, bright colors, fragrant scents.....) so I'm trying my best to make her some good-for-eczema-skin pretty soap!

When I first cut it the stink almost made me throw up, but an hour or so later when mom got home she sniffed it and it was fine. I can still smell the stick a little bit, but nothing like when I first cut it. Perhaps it is the combination of GM and lavender? My EO is peppermint, lavender and rosemary.

Hmmm.....I guess we'll just HAVE to try some more batched to find out if GM and lavender is more strong smelly (aka "stinky") than GM with other oils......
