Hi,
I have started selling my Body Frosting cream. I package it in a Pet jar with a dome lid. I put a clear seal dot on one side of the lid. I then heat seal the jar in a cello bag. I ship it in a thick bubble wrap envelope.

I have been told by 2 customers now that the jar seems to be sweating inside the cello bag. The jar does not open nor is the seal broken. The seal on the cello bag is intact and air tight; however, the moisture inside is messing up the label and makes it appear that water or moisture has gotten into the heat sealed cello bag.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Cold then heat then cold is my guess. Would shipping it in a box help? What can I do about this?

Thanks for any ideas.

It could be your cello bag. Cello bags are air permeable, which means they let air in. When the temp changes, moisture from the air inside the bag cause condensation. This causes your labels to smear. You could use a shrink wrap instead and shrink the whole jar or put the jar inside a small ziploc bag. You can find generic bags inexpensively at the Dollar Store. Are you using the cello in case the jars leak?

Thanks, SoapBuddy,

I'm using the cello bags because I want to show the finished product has not been tampered with.

I also have 75ga PVC Centerfold Shrink Film with my heat sealer. Would this prevent air from getting in?

Oops!
This is what I was calling the cello bags:

They are poly bags meet FDA requirements for use in food applications.
The unique vapor and moisture barrier prevents moisture from penetrating the package and extends the shelf life of products.

So how is moisture getting in? It must be leaking somehow?

How are you wrapping the cello around the jar? A twist tie, rapphia or a ribbon will let air in. Your better choice would be using a safety seal at the top inside of your jar. What diameter are your jars?

I heat seal a bag out of the poly wrap material, put the jar inside & then heat seal the bottom of the bag with my heat sealer.
The diameter of the jar is about 3".

I have never quite gotten how to use shrink wrap bands around a seal.

Why not use the same size and technique with shrink wrap? You don't need to use shrink bands. You can shrink wrap the whole jar.

Isn't this what I'm doing with the poly wrap? This poly wrap is shrink wrap.Maybe I need to use my heat gun to shrink it?

Is this what an insert in the lid of the jar is used for?

Do I need to wrap a plastic tape around the jar where it meets the lid like companies do with Fragrance oils?

I'm lost.

Here is a pic of a safety seal. Image
You can buy those or wrap the area where the lid and the jar meet with tape.

Safety seals are good but make sure you check carefully that the seal works reliably with the container. We've had some issues with that. The aluminium seal is stronger than the pressure-sensitive foam type.

Hi,
I just called the company where I bought the jars and the lids.

They do not carry any seals at all and could not provide me with any information about the jars and sealing them.

The lid size is 70/400 - domed lid.

Is this the size of the lid seal I would order and any suggestions on where I can order them?

Thank you :D
