I have a large roll of corrugated card which I would like to use to package my soap. But packaging is strongly NOT my strong suit. I have no idea how to actually do it. I tried a cigar band, of course, but it doesn't seem to stay on well. Does anyone know of examples of pretty cardboard packaging and/or have general tips? I have some Avery labels so I can use those to list the ingredients, if I can find a pretty template. I'm looking to have something that is rustic but pretty.

Ugh, I am SO not design oriented.

Could you wrap the cardboard with a thin ribbon?

Or maybe some sisal or raffia twine going across the soap and the cigar band?

Packaging has been my greatest challenge, so I'm not sure how much I can help! I'm doing cigar bands in either card stock or brown kraft paper, with a label applied. The round bars are much harder, though, because the cigar bands don't work as well.

What does the corrugated card look like? Is it too thick to bend well into a cigar band? If you pre-crease the corners, you might get it to fit tighter. I've wrapped in newspaper (plus either labels or cigar bands for info) and I'm trying tissue for the rounds. I agree: toughest part of making soap! (Especially if you don't want to shrink wrap!)

Mellifera, try coffee filters (get the cheap ones at dollar tree), put the round soap in the center, pull the ends towards the middle and put your sticky label over to hold the ends down.

For tulle, you would need low temp hot glue or rubber cement.... both could be a problem with the soap. I have used the hot glue if I do a glitter band as tape will not hold that as well. In that case it is always the second band and does not come in contact with the soap. If you really like the look of the tulle you could put a paper circle on top of the soap, wrap with the tulle and then glue a circle label on top?

That's an idea! I'm not sure if I like the tulle, but it was a thought. Because I'm a beekeeper, I try to stay "eco-chic" in my packaging--mostly tins for my balms, and kraft paper for my soaps. Tulle is nice in some ways--I can get pre-cut circles! But not so "eco." And it contrasts with the kraft paper look of the others. Ekh. Wrapping the soap is harder than making it!

Maybe square kraft boxes...

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5528&start=0&hilit=packaging - check out this link for some ideas.
I happen to love paper so just keep changing what I do. If you wanted to stay with the brown eco look, there are unbleached, tan coffee filters or could you look for some tan or brown tissue paper? There is the possiblity though that tissue coloring can come off on the soap. Now if the soap coloring is close to the tissue paper it would not show up.
Ps. this is one of the first times I was actually able to 'link'... thanks for having me step outside that box!

Nice, thanks for the thread! I tried tissue paper the other day--blue, since that's one of my logo colors. It's a possibility, if I can keep the wrap tidy. That's the biggest problem with round and paper--I don't want the packaging to look messy, but wrapping is not among my talents. The square and rectangular soaps are so much easier! But I like round for the facial bars!

So I'd need to line it with white, or use white. Too much trouble.
