Try Spectrastat if you don't like parabens. About 0.8%
Personally I like urea less than parabens because it releases formaldehyde...

Spectrastat is caprylhydroxamic acid and caprylyl glycol and glycerin. What do you use to lower the pH so it's not irritating in a lotion or a cream? It seems to work the best at a neutral pH, which would be difficult in O/W or W/O emulsions. It is also temp sensitive.

I have no idea about preservatives, the one im using is the only one available from my supplier, and most others in Australia! So i have to do a little research and find something different here as im not due fo an American order for some time yet.

You mentioned that you don't use Optiphen in your lotions. May I ask what you prefer instead? I'm going to try to make lotion for the first time (using your recipe!) and wanted to know what you have found that works best.
