I made an alkanet infusion with my base oils. My soap turned blue then purple-ish blue in the pot. It's been about 10 hours and it's still more blue than purple in the mold. Will it turn more purple as it cures?

Alkanet is fickle. From my experience, it turns blue to purple depending on the strength of your lye solution and which oils you used.

Mine turned purple when mixing up the soap "batter", but as it saponified it turned blue. I am hoping as it cures it will turn back to the purple color, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyone know if this is a true statement? "I am told that alkanet with a 5-7% discount will yield colors in the blue to purple range. If the soap is given a 8-10% discount you'll get the purple to red spectrum."

Well I updated a picture in the gallery. Doesn't look good. If and when I try using the alkanet root again maybe will try a higher SF to see if that makes it stay purple.

Okay, so now my soap is turning purple!! So happy I did a 7% SF it that helps.

the ph absolutely affects the final color, gel vs. not gelling also does. the results also depend on how you used the alkanet. did you add the powder directly to your soap or did you infuse the oil with it?
using an infusion at 50% of your total oils with give you almost a navy blue purple while using only 15% will give you a lavender strength purple to greyish depending on your oils
