Hi everyone - this is my first post so excuse me if I dont get it quite right!
I have been making CP soap for a little while and had no problems - today I made a Goats milk soap using GM powder - used half the amount of water for the lye and the other half I mixed with the GM powder and then added that at light trace. All mixed in perfectly and looked and smelt wonderful
I decided to let it gel and it did as per usual with my other loafs. But when I checked it a bit later the gel stage has turned into a liquid stage - the soap is sort of going hard but is still oily - there is oil all over the top of the loaf and its squishy when you press on it. Its def oil as there is no zap in the liquid - I used rice bran oil which I have never used before and Im wondering if that caused a problem?
Oils were Coconut 100g, Castor 200g, Palm 300g, Rice Bran 100g & Olive 300g - lye 131g and water 190 with lye and 190g with 25g GM powder. I ran it though the soap cal and got the lye/water amounts that way and superfatted at 6%
Will it set by tomorrow? (I made it around lunchtime today and its now about 9pm) or will I have to rebatch or something?

Sounds like it overheated. The sugars in milk increase your risk of an overheat :( I believe the more experienced folks will advise you to toss it in the bin.

It does sound like it overheated. You may be able to rebatch it and stir the excess oils back in, but I haven't had much luck with that when my GM soap overheats. :(

Why not just let it sit for another day and see if the oils soak in? If they do not you could rebatch it.

Sounds like overheating to me as well.

Thanks for the replies, I unmoulded it this morning and found it had a big puddle of orange at the bottom which I assume was lye. So I put it back in the pot and melted it right down again - even got out the stick blender and got it smooth. Hopefully its fully traced this time - if not in the bin and start again.
I might change that recipe or not use it again if its going to do things like this to me.

I'm hoping this photo I uploaded to flickr will work to show what the base of the soap looked like when I unmoulded this morning. Have since rebatched and it seems to be setting better now (fingers crossed)

Yay! You guys rock at teaching me new things! *proud*

Sorry your batch overheated :( Glad that re-batching seems to have worked though! And thanks for the picture! They really help us newbies to understand what certain things look like!

thanks for the help everyone, I will make sure the next batch I make is well ventilated so it doesnt overheat at all. I would hate to go through all this again as its very depressing - esp when it looked so good when I poured it into the mould. Oh well we can only learn from our mistakes I guess!
