I've been working on my Milk/Lye portion of the soap today, and concentrating so hard on that made me forget to add the Lard to my soap. Oops! :?

I assume it will be Lye heavy now?

Most likely, but you can rebatch with the missing ingredient.

To do that, I just grate it, melt it down, add the lard and then re-poor into the mold?

Grate it with gloves, heat it, get it to the mashed potatoes stage, then add your lard. Mix really, really well. You won't be able to pour; more like glop into your mold.

I've decided not to worry about rebatching since it was such a small test batch anyway. My main focus was getting the milk/lye mixture right so that I didn't get spots. And guess what - NO SPOTS! :D

Interesting thing though - I've pulled it out of it's mold. It was a mold with lots of individual soap bars, so although it was still a bit soft, it came out ok. Funny though was it cut b e a u t i f u l l y. Like, amazingly beautifully. Cutting the soap bars up to check for spots, my cutter slid straight in, the soap slid straight off. No tackyness at all.

So 1 - No Spots. Yay!
And 2 - It cut up SO nicely! It's like the perfect soap I have been aiming for, but better!
Lastly 3 - Slight zap. lol. I licked the soap. I wouldn't say ZAP. More like "tee hee that tingled".

I immediately thought "maybe I just omit the lard all the time?!", but then my recipe would just be Goat's Milk, Olive Oil, Castor (tiny amount), Sweet Almond (tiny amount), Coconut Oil, Beeswax (1%). :?

Lye heavy soap will normally cut easily, unless it's way lye heavy; then it will crumble.

Just trash it and chalk it up to experience. Here's a thought for you. I have my recipes in clear plastic covers. I have a water soluble marker that I tick off the ingredients as I go. Once done, I wipe off the markers from the top of the plastic sheet and I'm good to go for next time.

Yeah, will trash it hehe.

Normally I don't forget ingredients. I was just concentrating so hard on the Milk/Lye solution after reading more info about how to get it right, that it happened this time.

But that's a good idea! :)
