hi, I have just seen a bathbomb that i would love to duplicate (for my own use) which has what looks like a circle cut out and then filled with other stuff, has anybody got an idea how to create the cut out part? here is the link to the one i saw :)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions given

Cool! Could be a mold with the section cut out or some kind of tool/machine that does the cutting.

I would think it was the mold they used... I can not cut mine after they harden.

You can put an upside down small cup inside a mold to re-create something similar. (2 liter lid or one of those measuring cups for children's medicine pops into mind first)

I've seen those before and thought they looked cool. Now I'm thinking about it more... I think I'd actually use a smaller mould to make the insert bit- (looks like butter cream). Might work to do it using something like the recipe on Anne Marie's website for the frosting on her bath bomb cupcakes if you want to pipe it in to look like butter cream. Assuming the frosting sets solid ok, I'd then put that into the larger bath bomb mould and pack the other colour stuff around it. It does look as though it's been done with a special mould, but this way might work to get a similar kind of effect. When I get chance to test the theory, I'll let you know!

I carry the Bomb Cosmetic Line. It looks to me like they are using a special mold and they are 2 bomb put together to make one.

Check out this http://www.bombcosmetics.co.uk/violet-n ... th-mallows

It would fit perfectly into the bath bomb shown above and the topping seems to be the same smaller mold. I beleive its all the same ingredients.

Their bath bomb are perfectly smooth, expect for the usually ring around the centre.

Not to mention, they are LOVELY. I could never duplicate them, so order them wholesale.

In the one you mentioned just it had listed for ingredients...

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit, Sucrose, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Fruit Butter, Parfum (Fragrance), Glucose, Aqua (Water), Palm Kernel Glycerides, Saccharide Hydrolysate, Acacia Senegal (Acacia) Gum, Glyceryl Stearate, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellol, Linalool, CI 42090 (Blue 1), CI 14700 (Red 4), CI 17200 (Red 33), CI 14270, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide).

I'm trying now to work out whether any specific ingredient would affect how easy it would be to make their bath bomb designs, or how well they would hold together. I'm wondering mainly about the sugar and the acacia gum. Anyone have any thoughts?

Sucrose is not like regular sugar. It also has glycerin in it, but that's lower on the ingredient list. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is used to countereact some of the cocoa and shea butter. It's a surfactant. The corn starch could be in there to make them unmold easier. As far as the Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower Oil, it must be an infused oil, as real jasmine oil would be prohibitely expensive.

I read this post a while ago, and in my seach for bath bombs, I came across a demo that showed the bomb being packed into a meatballer that you can get at a kitchen store. It had a hole on the top of the ball. It wasn't as large as what made that indentation in your picture, but I was thinking...if you use the meatballer (which looks like scissors with two round 1/2 globes on the ends) tightly pack it and while it is still in the holder.. use a spoon to scoop back out some mixture through the hole.

If anyone has a meatballer, let me know if it works...

Thanks,

Ali

Unfortunately I haven't had much luck with those little molds. When they are still in scissor form, they are the wrong angle to unmold straight. I had my husband cut off the handles but I still can't get the mold to work well. I think it's hard for me to unmold something that small. It always separates in the middle and I'm using the same batch/recipe as when I use bigger molds. I'm so sad because I desperately want to make small bath bombs.
