Books tell me that coconut oil have a good foaming property. But based on my experienced I'm using a Coconut oil but my soap is not that foamy. What can I add to my soap to have a good foaming property? And what do you meam by "lather"? Creamy lather? Thank you!

Adding castor oil will give you more bubbles. You can also add a small amount of sugar to your lye water. Handmade soaps don't normally have as much lather like detergents. Depending which oils/butters you use, some will give you small bubbles, while others will feel more creamy. It depends on the total formula and how much you superfat.

My husband agrees with you... handmade soap does not have the same bubblage as the 'liquid stuff'. He will use it for his hands but not in the shower. I have found that to use one of those nylonnet puffs will increase the bubbles or just to use your hands without a washcloth because for some reason that washcloth seems to inhibit the bubbles. I tried the sugar in the lye water but due to the heat it would carmalize on me. I do find that I get alittle more lather if I use carrot, pumpkin or goats milk... probably because of the natural sugars in it.

For me, I don't mind not having lots of bubbles. I do like a creamy lather tho, and those bath puffs do help. :D

If you want lots of bubbles, I would experiment with 100% coconut with a 20% superfat.

I had read that as well, but still it carmalized. I have thought about trying to add it to my heated oils before adding the lye water, but right now am doing mostly the additive soaps, or a milk soap. I have also thought about trying the simple syrup method. I will add these to my to try list. Do you find that the sugar really increases the bubbles?

You can add the sugar to your lye water AFTER it cools off. Or hold back some of your water that you use for lye, dissolve the sugar in it, then add it as soon as the oils and lye are combined.

Thats it! I want to try to add it after the oils and lye are mixed. I can make a simple sugar from the reserved water & mix with the sugar. Now I need to plan another bar.... darn!

I use 6 % castor oil in all my soaps and unless I add high percent of butters, my soaps lather very nice. I also notice that my Hemp, Carrot and Pumpkin lather the most.
