The very first scented soap I made was cinnamon. I learned to soap with Norma Coney's book (I know, I know, I'll go sit iin the corner when I'm done.
) Norma also used to sell soapmaking supplies, and she had the loveliest cinnamon FO - smelled like the spice.
Well, Norma got out of that line of work, and I searched for years to find another cinnamon that I liked. Almost every single one of them smell (to me, anyway) like Red Hots. I got so frustrated I got on the Internet, tracked down Norma, called her, and said, "where did you get that stuff???" And she directed me to The Chemistry Store. So I bought a bottle of their FO called "Cinnamon Sticks".
I was pretty sure I was going to be happy with it when I smelled it. But tonight, as I opened my bottle of ground cinnamon to make a swirl in my soap, I realized that what I was smelling in the bottle of ground cinnamon was identical to what I was smelling in my soap pot.
Sigh.
