I know this is where they say you should splurge, and I'm wiling, but I've seen the same exact scales listed on some of the popular soap supply sites for a little cheaper elsewhere.

Has anyone ever heard of the site below? How about ebay, or should I pass? Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a scale from there. BrambleBerry also has a scale. I have one from BrambleBerry also. http://www.brambleberry.com/13-Stainles ... P4087.aspx

I believe Kevin Dunn lists Old Will Knott in the resource pages of his book, Scientific Soapmaking, so they're probably a reputable supplier.

Brambleberry is great too of course! I have (and use) the $37 scale from them but I wonder if the one Irena has is a little better quality. I find my scale sort of "flits" around the numbers sometimes until it "settles" on the final measurement. Not a big deal but annoying because you have to reeeally watch for the "final" number before you stop pouring or whatever. (Then again, maybe all scales do this!)

HTH,

Karri

The one I have settles to a number and stays there.

Yeah mine always does settle to a number too but it just seems to wobble a bit before making up it's mind

you can also find nice scales on amazon.com that measure in grams and ounces and have the tare feature. I paid about $20 for mine and it works great. If you keep it in a zip-type plastic bag it will stay clean while you are measuring your oils. (In case you are like me and get drips every now and then!)

I got my first set from Amazon and the dealer even threw in an a/c adapter for $35. Just ordered an Escali last week from another place on there and adapter to go with for a total of $30. I wanted a second scale to help with packaging at the house.
I would recommend an adapter bcse if you use it much you can go through some batteries. Also shy away from ones that use button batteries since they are very costly to replace.

I have since received my "Bargin scale" and I didn't know they could make them that small! Obviously it will not be useful for soap making and the dang adapter I ordered will not fit it since there is no place to plug it up. Goes to show you get what you pay for. This one will be returned :(

I am using a food scale, which I think I originally paid about $50 or $60 for a few years back. I have used it consistently for food for that long, and it works great. It measures in g and ozs, but I prefer to use g because it makes more sense to me. I believe you can find food scales for even cheaper, but the one I have has a bunch of presets for fruit and common foods (like it knows a banana typically weighs 110 - 120 g, for example). If you don't need all those bells and whistles you can find one for $20 or $30.
