Hello everyone! This is going to be my first time making cold process soap and I am trying to find a good beginner recipe. I bought Olive Oil, Castor Oil , Coconut Oil and canola oil from the store and I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a good recipe to make with these oils. :P

Welcome! You can find recipes at Miller soap. http://www.millersoap.com/#Soap Contents
Here is a thread that you can use. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6431
I prefer not to use canola as it oxidizes too qickly and can cause DOS. There are a lot of helpful threads on this forum. Since you haven't made any soap yet, I would do some reading first.
Here is another thread you might find helpful. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3800

Here is a recipe that I use alot. It makes a nice hard bar with lots of bubbles.

Olive Oil 65%
Coconut Oil 33%
Castor Oil 2%

I superfat at 7%. Just run it through a lye calculator for whatever size batch you want to make. :D

What do you suggest is a good size batch for my first batch? I was thinking 4lbs.? Thank you for all of your help! The percentages are a little confusing for me so I will have to do some more research on making your own recipes.

I wouldn't do more then a 1 pound batch at first that way you won't be to upset if things don't go as planned. Also you will want to try some scent soon and the unscented bars won't be as appealing to you. Made my first batch as laundry soap so if it flubbed it wouldn't be wasted. For that 100% coconut is the best but you can use any soap with it.
Another recommendation to use for laundry would be 40% coconut and 60% lard-lard is cheap. You are going to have to use a soap calculator to figure your lye and water amounts but you need to get used to doing that. You should always check the calculations of any recipe you find. Here is a simple one to use
For your other oils maybe 5% castor, 10% canola, 20% coconut 65% olive- this will take awhile longer to cure and be a little soft at first so if you get lard and change the 65% olive to 20% olive and 45% lard you will have a good well rounded formula.
You should read up on the percentage guidelines and properties of the different oils so you can learn to come up with your own recipes-it's lots of fun! See Somewhere on the site he had a video that was a good explanation but I couldn't find it. Perhaps by exploring a bit you can.

I would suggest that you have an accurate scale that can measure grams. A 2 pound batch would be a good size I think, as a slight variation in measure is crucial, but not as crucial as a 1 pounder. That way when you weigh out your ingredients you will feel confident of the weight.

Have fun and good luck!
