So in my quest to de-tox my bathroom cabinets I'm looking for something I can use on my face that won't make me break out. I have combination/fussy skin (I'm in my 30s and my skin breaks out once a month. Ugh!). So I would say my skin is "dehydrated" but can break out/get clogged pores pretty easily.

I have diff soaping oils in my cabinet including rosehip oil, avocado oil, shea butter, etc etc. Could I use one of these on my face or would I break out? For years I've been using Clinique Dramatically Different which makes my skin look amazing. But alas, I pulled off the ingredient tab and read it yesterday. BOO! There's crap in it.

Karri, I was trolling the web and came across these sites:

http://www.smartskincare.com/tips/tipca ... kinrecipe/

http://www.heatherferris.net/homemadeskincare.html

Maybe one of these recipes can give you a starting point. (I used Dramatically Different for years and loved it, chemicals and all! )

Thanks Linda - will check those out!

I loathe to give up some of my favorite drugstore/dept. store products. I used to be a cosmetician at Shoppers Drug Mart way back when I was "young" and therein started my love affair with toiletries and cosmetics. Unfortunately most of it is toxic waste in a nice package :(

I found this site today and I'm really excited to try some of their cosmetics: http://www.100percentpure.ca (Of course, I'm not buying any soap ... have more than enough of that lying around! LOL)

If you want to keep it natural and simple, I would try jojoba oil. The oil is very compatible with the structure of the skin and shouldn't make you break out.

Will do Irena. I know where I can buy a small bottle of it here in town so worth a try.

Should I/can I add anything else to it? i.e. it's a wax isn't it? Will it help with hydration?

Re fluids: I'm not much of a water drinker (bad, I know) but I do drink a lot of tea! (Okay and coffee in the a.m. ... bad bad bad!)

I have used both avocado and olive oils and found that they really helped my face. They are a bit on the heavy side, but i put them on at night and my skin was always baby soft the next morning. I generally do this in the winter time when my skin needs more help.

I don't go too close to my eye area, i found that i really don't need it there where the skin is much thinner.

I think my skin gets oily in certain places at certain times of the month but that it's more "dehydrated" than truly "dry." i.e. it needs more water/to retain more water vs more oil/sebum. A quick and dirty test for dehydration (supposedly) is when you hold you finger horizontally on your face and push up gently and the skin sort of crinkles like tissue paper.

So I'm reluctant to use certain oils/waxes on my face because of that ...
