HI,

It makes no difference at all how much you mix it - it settle back out of a thin solution. Mine is a dry oil spray, and it settles to the bottom. NO problem , I just shake it up again before I spray. It doesn't clog the sprayer, and so far - no sunburn!

There are several Z Cote versions, but only one" Z Cote Max". The manufacturer's literature says that, when used as the only mineral in a formula, that 8% is SPF 20.

Hope that helps!

For a lotion bar it needs to be mixed in till the formula is almost too thick. Then it will stay suspended.

Yes, exactly - I made lotion bars with this at first, but then found them a bit heavy feeling for hot weather, and changed over to a dry oil spray.
Good stuff - not cheap...but good! :)

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to let you guys know that all the posts in this thread have been helpful to me. I bought some cyclomethicone (which I'm in LOVE with!) and have been going crazy with the dry oil sprays. I've been experimenting with the % of cyclo to oil depending on what type of feel I'm looking for. It started when my hairdresser offered me a dry oil spray to tame flyaways for a staggering $38 for a small bottle! I took a look at the ingredients list and I knew that this forum would have some ideas for me! Finding this thread was great too because I never go without sunscreen and was happy to find ideas for making my own for personal use.

So anyway, I've made a variety of after-shower dry oil sprays for myself and my mom, and a few versions using ZCote max as a sunscreen (following the instructions in this thread). So far, (about 3 months in) the sunscreen spray really seems to work for me. I even used it when I was in Wyoming over the holidays, and no sunburn on my usually bright red nose!! I made one version with FCO and one with rice bran oil - both seem to work well - I wear it under my makeup on a daily basis and use it on my shoulders, etc, when they are exposed. I've thought of trying it in lotions or creams, but given the ease of the dry oil approach, I think I'll stick with what's working!

Thanks everyone!

ZCote max does work well. It's too bad there is no way to know what the actual SPF is and how much is actually needed for a particular SPF. This is one instance where I will stick with commercially made product. I have very fair skin which burns easily and need more protection then someone that has darker skin.

The manufacturer of all the Z-cote line of products has a detailed document on their website which tells you the percentage to use to achieve a particular SPF. They give formulating tips as well. Of course the only way to know for sure is to formulate as instructed, then have it tested in a lab. $$$$$

I make sunscreen for friends and family, but not for sale because of the regs and cost of having it tested and verified. But I have been happy with the results even in extreme conditions, and I like knowing all the "other" ingredients in my stuff is not bad for me. ;)
