Hi there, I made a batch yesterday that I think I have not mixed enough as it is a recipe I have used before with no problems. I poured it in two parts and it appears to have heated/gelled as there are cracks but it is sooo soft. Can I rescue this batch at all? Will try and post a photo soon. Many thanks for any help you can provide.

The cracking is usually a sign that the soap is overheating. What was the temp of your oils and lye when you combined? What fragrance did you use? Some fragrances can make soap overheat.
Did you reach a true trace?

The oils and lye were at 40C not sure what that is in Celsius. I used BB Champagne and Blackberry, Champagne in one half and Blackberry in the other half. No I don't think I reached a true trace as I have been having problems with tracing too thick so was trying to cut back and perhaps I have cut back too much.

Celsius should have read Fahrenheit

That sounds about right. You probably got a false trace then. Does it zap?

Phew that is a relief and I was so wanting to take them out quick to have a look and see if the swirl that I had tried to do had actually worked. I will just have to be patient and so long as the soap it self it OK that is the main thing. Thanks once more for your help and advice, it is very much appreciated.

The soap was finally firm enough to take out of the mold last night and although still a bit soft is now fine. Huge relief and I think Soapbuddy that you were right in saying it had over heated. Probably so much so that it liquefied and then needed to reharden. Good learning curve. Photo attached.

Will try attaching photo again.

I noticed some spots on the soap that looked like dos, I hope those are an additive that didnt get mixed in properly?
It is very pretty!

I hope those dots are some of the colourant not mixed in properly too. I was trying for a light red soap and used a red colourant but not enough it seems. Will have to wait and see I suppose unless there is another way of telling if its DOS or not.

DOS looks more orange. I don't think that's DOS. Be careful getting a true red in CP soap. You will need a lot of colorant and it will bleed or stain. It might look cool for Halloween though.

That's good to know about the red being hard to achieve. Thanks for the info and also pleased to think it isn't dos.
