I was looking at the scrub from L*ush that contains rhassoul clay and I was wondering how I could make something similar to this. Has anyone tried this? Or any suggestions or ideas?

What are the ingredients? I would be happy to help you formulate.

I just checked out the ingredients on the site and I'm assuming this is the one that you're talking about
Glorious Mud:
* Rhassoul Mud, (great for oily skin)
* Sodium Bicarbonate,
* Citric Acid,
* Cold Pressed Sesame Oil (Sesamum indicum),
* Aloe Vera Extract (Aloe barbadensis),
* Perfume,
* Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia),
* Myrrh Resinoid(Commiphora myrrha) (probably used for color)
* Sweet Orange Oil (Citrus sinensis),
* Benzyl Salicylate, (this is usually used as a fragrance fixative with floral fragrances)
* Coumarin (this has a vanilla-ish fragrance to it)
* *Limonene. (this has a citrus type fragrance)

I think you could easily do this by adding Rhassoul clay and whatever oils you'd like to a bath bomb recipe.

*Everything in purple is what I added to show what the product is probably used for in this recipe

I also just wanted to add that after reading reviews of the product on the site, people didn't like it in solid form. They'd rather have it in powdered form.
Plus, some of them were using it on their faces. With the citric acid and baking soda in it, I wouldn't recommend that. That can burn quite nicely (I know from experience LOL)

The ingredients WM posted are the ingredients. Thank you for the tips! How much Rhassoul should I add or I should I sub it for another ingredient? Looking for somewhat of a starting point and can go from there!
WM I would imagine that would not be a good thing on your face...sorry you learned that the hard way! Would there be a better way to make something similar as a far as a mud scrub goes?

Have you actually tried this scrub from Lush? I'm just wondering how it actually works. From the way the reviews read, they just rub this on their body while in the shower and it rinses off as they're using it.
If this is the case, I'd go a different route and not add the clay. I don't think it would be on your skin long enough to have much benefit.

If you're looking for a solid sugar scrub, here's a basic recipe:
1 part MP Base
1 part oil (olive, grapeseed, jojoba, avocado, sunflower, etc)
2 to 3 parts sugar (white, brown, turbinado, granulated, etc)
fo/eo if desired

If you're looking for a mask using rhassoul clay, here's a basic recipe for a dry mask (then you don't require a preservative):
4 parts clay
1 part powdered oatmeal
1 part botanicals or extra powdered ingredient (cocoa, green tea, herbs, citrus peel powders, honey powder, milk powder, nut powder) - it just matters what you want from your mask.

Then when you are ready to use it, mix a little bit in water, witch hazel, yogurt, etc. Then apply it to your skin.

Play with the recipes until you get what you're looking for.

I hope I've helped a bit and not confused you.

Out of curiosity I did make something similar today.
Here's my recipe:
2 oz sunflower oil
brown sugar & fig fo
2 oz baking soda
1 1/2 oz citric acid
1/2 oz rice flour
1 oz rhassoul clay

I decided to make a small batch since I was just experimenting. I made it this morning, I wish I would have taken pictures. It didn't look very pretty, it was this big brown blobbish but hard substance.

After letting it harden for hours, I used it in the shower for an interesting experience. I cut it in half, brought one half into the shower with me. As I was rubbing it on my leg it was fizzing and releasing the oil and clay. The oil stayed on my skin as the clay went straight down the drain. It was kind of gross watching this brown stuff running down my leg and down the shower.
Well, since I only got my one leg done, I jumped out of the shower and grabbed the other 1/2 for my arms. As I was rubbing it up and down my arm, it was fizzing like crazy, so of course some of it got in my eye. Nothing like the feeling of citric acid in your eye. As it fizzed it released the oil and clay again, leaving the oil on my skin while again the clay went down the drain.
After I was all done I noticed red dots all over my arm and leg, which I'm thinking is from the citric acid. They don't hurt and will probably be gone soon.

I would not use that on your legs again. Citric acid can do some serious damage, unless it's dissolved in water first.

I know, I knew I'd get a rash or something from the citric acid. I don't plan on making anymore. I'm betting if I had used this right after shaving, it would have really hurt. Plus, I wasted good clay that went right down the drain.
I just figured I'd give it a try since she was looking for a recipe for it. I definitely do NOT recommend trying it out. Just call me the human guinea pig ;)
