To save soap that was too harsh for my skin, I rebatched it with 3% additional fat and some goat milk. The soap was originally hard and off-white. Now it has these little orange-brown specks running throughout. ??? It is very pretty, but does anyone know what caused that?

It's the sugar in the milk that caramelized. It happens.

Good, then--It is a normal occurence and not an indication that there is free lye hanging out in the soap (which I doubt--I added enough extra oil to make the superfat 8% and then there's the extra fat in the milk). Hopefully this version will feel good on my skin, unlike the original batch. Thanks.
