Teach Soap

Just wanted to share an experience I had the other day while making some soap. I purchase the non-discoloring vanilla from Brambleberry and when I added it the soap starting ricing and almost seized on me I had to act quickly to get it into the mold. This was my first time experience with ricing so I paniced!

I have this but have not used it yet so I will watch this thread with interest. I did have peppermint EO rice on me in November. Yes panic city is the name of that game. Did you gel this soap? There was no way that I could stop that gel from happening... right there on my counter in front of my eyes!! So I quickly popped it in the oven and made sure it did a complete gel. Turned out to be a very nice soap.

Yes I gelled it and it came out nice. I put organic vanilla beans in the mix and looks great, although the vanilla smell is'nt as great as the vanilla select but you can still smell the vanilla.

Yikes - I hate that when that happens. It's been a long time since I soaped with that fragrance but I don't remember it being funky. Just to be on the safe side, I"ll have our retail store (OtionSoap.com) test it in a 5 pound batch this week and I'll make a smaller batch tomorrow =)

I used the non discoloring vanilla from BB 2 or 3 times this week and some last week. I didn't have a single problem with it! Maybe it has something to do with reaction with another ingredient used.

We just soaped with it at the retail store (a 4.5 pound batch) and it did accelerate trace and be persnickity. I'm going to hunt down the issue (like is it a batch variation with just one mini drum of it for example? And LuvSoap26's experiences definitely make me think 'batch variation.') Putting on my Detective Hat now!

Traiansmom, what temp do you soap at? I soap just above room temp. I have read that the lower temps are like likely to react with scents. Thinking this could possibly be a contributor.
