I decided to try Luigi’s tip on using the polypropylene sheeting that one can get at Home Depot and fashion a liner from it, which is in the photo’s. It worked out pretty well. I decided to go one step further and make my dividers and end pieces out of the same stuff since its pretty rigid and I was careful pouring my soap. I did my swirling right in the mold, which worked pretty slick. (I’m really newbie when it comes to swirling and using coloring). I’ve had some botched batches…lol.
I left the soap in the mold for about 3 days cuz I had to leave town and wasn’t able to remove the soap in my usual day and a half. The soap was to soft anyway.
Removing the soap from the liner was a little tricky without messing up the logs. My soap was made from pretty soft oils and that’s why,…ie, OO, PO, Shortening, and Castor O. I carefully ran a really think butcher knife down the sides to loosen the soap and also did that on the bottom.
I’m going to use these liners again because I HATE CUTTING AND FITTING FREEZER PAPER, and am to cheap to buy the silicone rubber molds…I don’t sell my soap. Next time I’m going to use just a touch of Non Stick Cooking Spray which I think will do the trick. I’ve actually used that on the inside of some Mylar liners I have used before…Anyway….just thought I’d share…AND ….Thanks again to Luigi for the tip on the Poly board.

Very nice! You can also use vaseline or mineral oil instead of the cooking spray.

I have also made liners from this and the first couple times the soap came out with no problems at all but since then I have had to use the soap cutter to get them out. I will try mineral oil next time because I have since went back to freezer paper because of the blemishes left in the soap after prying them out of the polypropolene molds.

Oh my gosh!!!! What beautiful soap!!! How do you do those tops. I always pour at thin trace which that definately wasn't.

Thanks for posting these pictures of such beautiful soap. That is so great to see three different soaps in the same mold.

Thanks everyone for the comments and ….the tips as well.

Alysaa, I did the first pour, which is green and white and I was bombing along and forgot to put the scent in that one. I was going to use a pear FO scent.
The next one was the pink one…all one color, and that one has a nice mild Plumeria blossom scent to it.
The last one was the Lavender and white swirl which I scented with Strawberry Rubarb..

Soapbuddy, do you think the mineral oil would be better that the cooking spray? I actually have a large bottle of mineral that I never use.
Melissa, I can see where you’re going with the bars if they get scared up taking them out of the liner. Mineral oil for us both….lol ..on the next batch.

Plschrader, yeah, I love doing those tops…so does my sister and wife. There’s 2 ways to go with that. First is to pour at a fairly advanced trace, that can be tricky if you’re going with a swirl. Second is to pour at a medium trace and wait for the soap to trace up in the mold. When the soap is at a pretty heavy trace you take a tongue depressor type stick and start folding the soap up from the sides to the center….both sides. Then you play with it for a bit more until you get what you think looks nice….sorta like folding egg whites.
Jer :P

Those are lovely. The top you create is so cool--thanks for the instructions on how to do that. I had never thought of going back and stirring once it gets thick in the mold.

What gorgeous soaps! Lovely and I too just love the tops of your soap. Will you rebatch the green or leave it naked?

I'm not handy with tools for wood work but I think perhaps I could make this mold too. Thank you Jer and thank you Luigi, each new idea builds into something new and different! I appreciate you sharing Jer and it makes me wonder what I can share!
