Teach Soap

I'm going to attempt this tonight. I had mentioned it in a previous post and my friend has asked if I've tried this yet so...

I'm going to either try cooking down the whisky some then add ice cubes of distilled water to this for the lye water combo. I believe soapbuddy had stated that stearic acid helps slow trace so I'll add a little more of that.

Or...

The other option is to grind oatmeal and soak that in whiskey an add at trace. I'm still juggling these options around! Any last words of encouragement!? Observations? Tips? I'm scared! Jk lol

Stearic accelerates trace, not slow it down.

Ooops! My bad. I had thought you had mentioned something that slows down trace and im wondering if that would have helped. I had though of maybe doing a slight water reduction then adding that back in with the whiskey at trace. I'm excited to do this but can't settle on one method to test this out with. I'm not going to scent or color with this experiment and am hoping a "faint" whiskey scent comes through. You have any suggestions on a way to tackle this?

No scent! I wonder if I hot process and try adding it that way if it'll retain any scent? Meh, I'm gonna use my soaked oatmeal and combine it with a water discount an add the whiskey at trace. Any ideas as to how to determine how much water to discount for something like this? This is completely unknown territory to me and I don't generally ever discount water.

I think it will be a waste of whiskey; only label appeal.

Well I told him I'd try making him some so I'll do a small batch and hope for the best. Nothing else to do on this rainy day as I'm not taking the mutt pack for a walk in this weather, it's been hard enough forcing them out back to use the bathoom as they stare at me at the door nearly refusing to go outside in the rain! I'll let you know what happens!

Well it's in the mold! I'm going to cut them into squares for him because it's a pretty deep mold so built up some of the soap and sprinkled with more of the oatmeal along those edges. Seemed to work okay, though we'll see as the days go on huh? I did a 35% water discount and added back the whiskey at trace to bring it back to a full 100% liquid. I ended up scenting it, but very lightly, with an almond/oatmeal fo and a little bit of balsam fir eo. VERY lightly scented. I really hope that some of the whiskey scent is still there, but I have a feeling that soapbuddy's right and the scent is gonna be gone. Whiskey didn't seem to accelerate it much, at least I didn't end up with Soap on stick or spooning it into the mold, poured right in. phew! glad I tried it... I'll let you guys know what happens with it.
