Which essential oils survive well through cold process? I know (from experience) that citrus won't stick around without something like lemongrass, but what about others? I am hoping to scent my soap before pouring instead of rebatching, and would like the fragrance to remain. Thanks.

I've used Litsea Cubeba as an anchor for citrus scents. My daughter and I both like the scent of Litsea on it's own. It's clean and refreshing to us.

You can also try Vetiver or Patchouli.

It is basically (all of) the citrus EO's that need an anchor in soaping. The others don't really, although some will do better if you add them after the heat is down. I always add my EO's after trace so that the heat will not be an issue, if you do the same, there are no real worries. And, since lemongrass is not a citrus, just smells similar to one, it helps to anchor, without altering the (lemon) scent too much. But I usually use the litsea too, because it it an inexpensive EO. When using orange EO, if you use the 5x or 10x one, instead of or along with, the regular orange EO, you will get good scent. As for lime, you have to use something to anchor it, but you can often find one that will fit into a nice blend. If not, you can try adding orris root powder or bentonite clay so as not to alter your scent.

Thank you. I have patchouli, but not vetiver--I will try that next. The lavender blended with some patchouli and orange still smells great at six weeks. I hope the rosemary tea-tree one lasts--it smells nice at day six. I have always added ees at trace, after adding anything else.

In re-reading my post I realize that I misspoke. There are still heat issues, even when poured at trace, unless you don't allow gel, because the chemical process continues. That is why your molds get hot and gelling occurs, if allowed. I guess you can chalk it up to me being sick and not having all burners firing at the same time! Even so, I haven't had any issues with the EO's, except when I didn't anchor the citrus ones long ago.

I think you will find that the rosemary tea tree blend will still be good more than a year from now!
