It has been suggested to me a Silastic adhesive would work so will try and find one and then try it out. Will advise when I have tested.

It's therapy. I have to do something to curb/quiet my obsessive & neurotic tendencies. I really can knit only so many wash clothes before Mr Man cries party foul.

I tried the silastic glue and it worked well, but when I made my soap and then tried to remove it from the mold the silicon sides came off too. Its no real problem though as I will simply tape them in place at the top from now on. The silicon leaves a lovely smooth finish on the soap.

Thanks for the update busybee! I am glad that you have it down now so you won't have to line and you won't be troubled with non-sticking silicone either. I think though, that I am going to get the polypropylene sheet since it has worked well for the others and didn't seem to cause them the trouble that you have had with the silicone.
Now, if I can't cut straight I am going to call on MsB, that being her specialty and all!

Here's a photo from several days ago after pouring my soap into my mold lined with the polypropylene I use just in case some of you were wondering what it looks like. I pored at a light/medium trace to do the swirls, which came out badly :(

The color isn't accurate as it's taken with a camera phone in my workshop/garage at about 1am so... But yeah, theres soap in there. The liner pulls right out of the wood mold with the soap intact. After use I give it a generous scrub, dry, and ready for another batch.

I was able to get by Home Depot about a week ago to pick up a sheet of polypropylene to line my mold. I cut it all out like Luigi mentioned and it was pretty easy, but you need a sharp knife as he mentioned and…you have to be pretty accurate in measuring to fit inside your mold. I came out really nice. I cut end pieces that fit in really tight and then went ahead and cut 2 more to divide my log mold into 3 sections. The end pieces fit so tight I didn't use my wood end pieces to back them.
Today I poured 3 different soaps and put that baby to sleep this evening. I’ll give it a good day or day and a half before I un-mold…. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. If this works, it's going to be the best thing since sliced bread…. :P After I un-mold, I’ll drop some pictures in of my mold, Luigi’s liner and all the soap I poured…Thanks again Luigi…you’re the man!!!. :P Stay tuned for pics to come. I didn’t use any mold release before my pour this time but maybe I won’t have to in the future if I’m careful when I un-mold.
Jer

Oh how interesting! A divider.... I like that idea! Can't wait to see the pics!

I sometimes when making a small batch will push the polypropylene into the center of my log. I've had a little leakage when I've done that, but just onto the polypropylene on the other side so no harm to my mold. It's just a tiny little bit. Good idea breaking the mold up that way into 3 sections. I'll have to cut up some scraps and make some dividers like that in case I need them for future use :)

Found this thread while searching for mold suggestions. One thing I'd like to point out. SilPat branded mats have a fiberglass weave through them, so do others like them. DO NOT CUT THEM. For any reason, otherwise fiberglass everywhere.

Yeah I found out because I got a silpat to line a jelly roll pan with for making peanut brittle (which reminds me, I need to make peanut brittle). Some people use the point of a knife to press into the brittle to break it up and that was a warning someone said. No cutting on a silpat ever, or throw it away, and throw away whatever you were cutting on it. That goes for any fiberglass reinforced silicone mat. (Used to help make it stronger I guess).

Yeah, those are perfectly fine for cutting. (Usually a lot cheaper than a SilPat style one too)
