I was wondering which kind of molds are best to use with what kind of soap. Do you have to use wooden molds for CP soap?

Plastic molds can be used for CP soap too. It helps to know what kind of a plastic it is and how well it can stand up to heat.

After spending too much money on mold and not being satisifird with them I made my own loaf mold out of 1X4. It makes a 2.5X3.5 bar of soap. It is just over three pounds. I made it 13.5 inches long so I get 13 bars. Now I might make myself one for little square guest soaps.

Thanks I was wondering because the plasic soap molds seem easier and less expensive. My bf does wood working so I asked him if he could make me one. I guess I will have to wait till spring because it is too cold here in KS right now to be working in an unheated shop. I know if I tryed to make one it would probably turn out disasterous. lol

I don't gel, so I prefer plastic, HDPE or lucite molds.

My neighbor made me one, hubby couldn't do it because he didn't have the right tools. I don't make CP as often as I probably should, I am very impatient!! Anyway, I never use it for CP, I use mine for MP, I just have to line it every single time. When you go to buy the mold, just see which type of soap can be used in it.

Oh so you can use MP in wood molds, didn't know that. Unfourtunately not all discriptions of molds say what can be used in them, or that is what I have noticed. Maybe they just assume that you know, lol. What do you line them with, wax paper?

I line with freezer paper. The kind that is waxy on one side. It is not really the big deal most people make it out to be. I have a template and I usually have a bunch cut out in advance. I am, however, just a hobbyist and do not make large batches.

hello all,

i have a question, if a wooden mold has a lid does that mean there is no need to wrap the soap in blankets? TIA
