Will buttermilk work in soap? Has anyone tried that?

we just use canned goat milk and mix with water using the direction on the can and it works good. cause refridge goats milk is hard to find where we live. supersoaps gets fresh for me and freeze it until i come to get it. never tried buttermilk but know that the butter in buttermilk is not really butter. they put a little vinegar in the milk to give the taste like butter. no butter in buttermilk but would be careful of the vinegar amounts.

Yes Buttermilk can be used in soaps, I use goat yogurt for my GM soaps. works great as there isnt as much sugars due to the fermentation.

supersoaps is a guy who is in the forum here a lot. he used to play for the chicago bears football and went to chicago to see the game today so he is gone. when i was new here last year i insulted him in here but did not mean to. then we found out we live close to one another and he was really nice and had me and my soapmaking business partner come to his house to teach us how to make soap and gave us a bunch of tricks and equipment. he is like 28 years old and retired so he makes soap a lot and sells to a lot of stores and such. send him a pm and i am sure he will help you.

I read that goats milk and coconut milk both give soap a velvety feel. I use coconut milk quite a bit and love how it enriches a bar. I freeze it in an ice cube tray and each cube is apx .5 oz. I thaw it out or use it frozen depending on the recipe, sometimes I use the whole can for a batch. It's the experimenting and learning that is such a challenge!

All the best~!

love2dostuff, may I correct you since I live in a dairy state? Buttermilk is a product that comes from when they take cream and churn it into butter. There is a liquid left over and that is buttermilk.
There is a way to do it without making butter... they add lactic acid bacteria to cows milk and that will make buttermilk. Vinegar is acetic acid and a shortcut to sour milk if you are in the middle of a recipe and do not have any on hand. So that makes me once again wonder if we would use 'homemade sour milk' would the vinegar nulify the lye?
