I have a teaspoon worth of a red mica that I received as a sample and wanted to know if anyone on here has made colored lip balms. I basically had to use the whole baggie in order to have just a stain of color. Is this normal? I was able to make 10 .15 ounce lip balm tubes. Does this make sense, or was this too much color for the amount of lip balm mix that was used? Thanks.

That is a lot. Also, some micas are not safe for lip balms. Did you check with the vendor?

Are you just trying to tint the lip balm or were you trying to get actual color on your lips, like a lipstick?

Lipsticks can take quite a bit of color, so if that is what you mean then it makes sense. If you were just trying to tint the lip balm base then that should have been plenty.

Thank you SB and BM!! @SB, I got the sample from C**stal S**nts when I purchased some bath bomb molds from them a while back and just got around to using the mica. I did check their web site and it did indicate that it was lip safe. @BM, I was trying to get actual color on the lips. I tried it out today and what it looks like is a stain on my lips.

Oh, I almost forgot!! I put castor oil for shine but the finished product is sweating, is this from the castor oil?

I used Mango butter, Shea butter, Grapeseed oil, 100% soy wax, and a little bit of avocado butter. And I used about 1/4 tsp. of castor oil

2 ounces, give or take. I was able to make 10 .15 ounce with a little bit left in the container.

Try it without the avocado butter.

Thank you soapbuddy. Do you know why you suggested to subtract the avocado butter? I'm not questioning you as if your wrong, I'm just curious!!
