Midnight...tell them once they try it they will like it!

Supersoaper... not to hi-jack this thread, but next week the bears are going to face some heads up football....against my team...The Packers! I understand that you have connections to the bears but here in WI we LOVE the packers. I pray for a well played, fair, safe game that the packers win! The competion is on. And no I do not bet, but would give up soapmaking for a chance to have the packers go to the superbowl.

Mella. You're my hero. I'm going to do that exact same thing and use the same analogy. Indulgentcreations you're awesome!! That's a very good idea and would be beneficial.

Bubbles. I would like to see both teams victorious but unfortunately only 1 will proceed to the Superbowl. I played there for the Chicago Bears for 4 years before having an business opportunity that I couldn't pass up and decided to retire from the NFL. My friends are still there and I see and speak to them frequently (except this week cause they're busy). I live in an area that is full of Carolina Panther fans (naturally) so having ties to the Bears is detrimental to my health. Also, I'm Italian, born and raised there but was educated in American University in Milan and Rome. Plus I live in a very redneck area where many here do not like foreigners. I'm a very big man and played linebacker. I would physically abuse offensive players without prejudice or malice and unfortunately, sometimes injuries would occur. Regardless of what anybody tells you, the job of a linebacker is to maim or injure running backs, tight-ends and occasionally decapitate the ever elusive quarterbacks in a blitz (blitz means lightning strike in German). However, at the end of the game, we are the best of friends and will dine together and give gifts to one-anothers children and families. On the field is a rough sport. Off the field is friendship, solidarity and fellowship.

Let us wager a single bar of soap against next weeks game? Regardless of the outcome, both teams are champions. Bet?

supersoaper,

You are on if you can wait for my most recent one to cure - should be done by valentines day? Your description of the game fits what I understand. There is a saying that "the line controls the game". I enjoy the complexity of the game....do not like the injuries. Hopefully you came out unscathed! Its odd to think that I have then seen you... have watched the games since childhood. This game I will only get to see snipets of as I have to work... but will still be cheering - go pack go! I'll be in touch.

Yes Bubbles. You've most likely seen me play. I received my largest bonuses from the 2005 season where we beat the Packers on games 13 & 16. It was the first time we were able to beat the Packers on our home field in many years and especially twice in one season. They are a formidable team and very well coached. Our bet is on then. 1 bar of soap to the teams victor. And we need to stop hijacking this thread.

I could be wrong but I have read that most soaps sold in stores do not contain lye. BUT that is because they are not actual soap.... they are labeled as deodorant bars and beauty bars. They may not contain lye but they do contain a lot of other chemicals!! Sorry can not remember where I found this info!

One good test for your soap to check the lye is the touch your tongue to a cut edge of a bar of finished soap two to three days after pouring! That might help. If it zaps your tongue don't give it to anyone.

edited for spellinz

hmm....

University Chem was helpful.

Because of that, I go into an elaborate explanation as to why there is no lye! That's no lye! (HAH!)

I explain that it's chemistry, and there is no lye in the present soap, however it's an ingredient essential to making the soap.

Someone I know that makes soap will list is like this as an example..

Water, Sodium Hydroxide*, Olive oil, Coconut oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Sweet Almond oil, Castor Oil.

*Although Sodium Hydroxide is used to make soap, there is no Sodium Hydroxide remaining in this soap bar.

Lye is a tricky substance. Well I finally purchased a few dryer sheets for soaping as they aren't allowed in our dryer!

What prompted this purchase you might ask! Well see this it hurt.

Image

It is healed over now but actually looks worse.

Some how a jumping lye bead jumped into my disposable glove and got me. I didn't notice the sensation at first as the gloves are tight fitting. As soon as it got my attention well I flushed it with pure vinegar and water for 5 minutes and guess that wasn't enough time.

So please be careful for you and your testers and potential customers. I'm very anal about cleanliness and precision, so careful and I got bit! Did a batch this morning using the dryer sheets and NO problems. Thanks to all who've gone before! edit to shrink photo.

Ouch! It does happen, but you will always be safer using gloves and goggles. That fabric softener sheet should help you. I add it to all my dry lye buckets.

I keep a softener sheet in the container where my lye is stored so I don't have to hunt for one before I can measure it. That was one of the best tips I've gotten from this forum!
