Hi all, I was wondering ....if you have a high quality M&P base and you shred it up and follow instuctions for makeing a hand milled soap(which normally would use a bar of good natural soap) would this still be considered a hand milled soap ? Has anyone ever done this? In the recipes I have seen they call for shredded soap distilled water to be added or a hydrosol oe other liqid and then small amounts of oils, herbs ect. Would this work for M&P? I guess I know what i'll be doing today. :|

Well, milled soap isn't melt and pour. It's cold process soap. However, it has the great benefits of Cold Process soap, without the dangers of working with lye.
We also call it rebatch.

I recommend watching this soap queen tv video..

http://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv ... YcCV0AWutw

And brambleberry, does sell a rebatch bases.
Which you can find here....

I tried the soap queen tv recipe. Exactly as she makes it. And it was wonderful. the soap was very gentle for the skin.

For the first rebatch, you always have to be careful not to add too much water to it. Otherwise it will take forever for the soap to cure, and dry the soap out.

I'm sure others have more great tips. They helped me make my first rebatch too!

MP would never be caled hand milled. That's only for CP soap. MP is only remelted if needed and it's still MP.

Thank you everyone for your comments,I didn't mean to imply that I was trying to bait and switch M&P for a rebatched CP though,I'm just curious weather or not you could use the same tecnique to add things to M&P base? :|

For MP base, it's best to only add color or fragrance. With that said, you can add up to 1 TBS of an oil if you like. If you add more, you will loose bubbles. Never add any fresh fruit or veggie as it can grow moldy.

I was actually wondering the same thing. So what is so diffrent about CP soap that you can add other things like flowers, fruit, etc, and not able to add those things to MP? Also is there a preservative, or if the additives (flowers, or fruit) are dried can you add them to MP?

So if you were to add fruits or veggies it would be best to put them in when you are makin the soap from scratch? So that it comes in contact with the lye and kills the bacteria...right? Because the bacteria growth that could occur is the main concern with adding this to soap? I think that is what you are saying. MP soap since it is already soap no longer has the lye in it.
