Can anyone point me in the right direction for making an all natural dog spray. We only like to give our dogs a bath once a month, as its too cold and dry during the winter months.

Wanted to make a something to keep them fresh smelling in-between baths and groomers appointments.

Or am I completely insane and should just let the dogs smell like dogs

It depends what you consider natural. Essential oils could irritate the dog's skin. In order for them to dissolve you would need something like alcohol, but that would dry out their skin too. Maybe some corn starch and a brush?

There are essential oil blends that are just fine for dogs and not drying in the least. You can mix them with water and a very, very small amount of 0-% [drinking] alcohol (like a drop or two in a 4oz bottle). Everclear works well for this. As for blends, lavender is a nonsensitizer and also a calming agent, so generally works well for dogs, not to mention it has the added benefit of repelling fleas in their beds. Lavender chamomile is a good blend too. Other than those two and the bug be gone one, I have not tried any others on my dogs. Of course, I spray my bed and pillows with lavender each night, but I leave the dogs alone in the winter, opting for the dog smell. LOL.

Just know that these sprays cannot be use on cats under any circumstance, as they cannot tolerate the use of any EO's.

Plain old baking soda brushed into a dogs coat also helps with odor. Test it on a small place first to be sure there won't be a problem and if it looks ok the next day, just sprinkle it on their coat and rub it in. Then brush really well to remove as much as possible.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I used dry products too. I think I mixed baking soda, corn starch and ground oatmeal. Sprinkled it on and brushed it out. Worked pretty good for being cheap and easy
