Teach Soap

im new to soaping, havent made my first batch yet, still in the research process. im starting a small craft business so soaping and beauty products wont be my main focus. but i wanted to make an all natural soap bar to sell along with body butters and lip balms that also use all natural ingredients. im getting my supplies from brambleberry and i have a lot questions

i was going to use the organic M&P base but reading its ingreidents... is it natural? if not compleatly how do i label it so i can put that the rest of the stuff in it will be natural but the base is just "organic"

i know its a clear base, and i was going to have one soap in my line of beauty products and was going to use an ultramarine to color it pink. when looking on brambleberry there was a liquid pink, and an ultramarine pink.. what is the difference between the two?

i also wanted to add jojoba beads in it as a soft exfolient ( and because i thought it would look pretty lol) in the soap making process when do i add those? do i do it last after i scent and color it?

i wanted to add a fixed oil to the base( something natural) to make it a little more moisturizing for the skin than just the plain base. i wrote down jojoba oil and vitamin e oil on my list of things i would like to try. it says that the jojoba oil is golden, so would this discolor my soap? what about the vitamin e oil? is there any other additive that would be good to add to the base to make it more moisturizing or lather better thats still natural? and when and how do i add these in? oh and what exactly is the liquid silk that they have? is it a natural product?

i dont really like a lot of scented soaps, because being pregnant anything scented broke me out so i waned to use a natural essential oil to give my soap a pleasing smell. i didnt want anything as a high scent. but i wanted it to smell good, like a very faint "clean" smell. i wrote down grapfruit essential oil because i tought that would give a nice clean smell, but im not sure, do any of you suggest an EO that would be good seeing as im only having one soap and not a line of different scents.

as a decoration to personalize my soaps, i was going to use some water soluable paper to make an origami star(its my companys logo) to embed in the soaps . i read and looked at the videos on soap queen tv and i know they pour some soap, then put in the embeded object, then pour more soap ontop... my question is, since it does not have to be in any particular spot in the stop, could i just pour the whole mold, and then stick the star in the middle instead of pouring twice, or will that for some reason not work?

my last question is about labeling. is there a certian way that soaps have to be labeled for sale? i know it has to thave the ingredient list, but is there a specific way that it has to be done? eventhough im doing it sort of a hobbiest and to make a little extra cash as a stay at home mom, i still want to do stuff correctly so i can eventually do small hometown fair's and such.

im sorry its a lot of questions but ive been researching for a while and couldnt figure it out, there was no books at the library, and im on a very slim budget ($0 lol)

The word "natural" has lost its meaning. No soap is truly natural since the lye used in the manufacture is made in a lab. The way I would label it is say 75% natural or 80% natural and leave it at that.
Ultramarine pink is man made too and so is the liquid color. One is an ultramarine, the other is a FD&C (Food, Drug & Cosmetic grade) colorant. Unless you want to add the beads on top, you will need to wait til the soap cools off, but it's still pourable before adding these beads. For 1 lb. of base, you can add up to 1TBS of a liquid oil. Depending on the color of the oil, yes, it can discolor the clear base. You would only need a couple of drops of Vit. E if you want to add it. That won't add any color. The more oil you add the less the soap will lather and the softer it can become. Liquid silk won't add much to your MP base. Unless you just want it for label value.

Fragrance is very personal. what you like, someone else might not. I would stick with basic EO's like Lavender, Orange, Bergamot, Tangerine or Grapefruit, since you would be handling these while pregnant. I haven't had good luck with the water soluble paper, so I'll leave that for someone with more experience. You soap will need to be labeled with the actual ingredients from the ones used most to the ones used the least. This should be fairly easy since the vendor should have the ingredient list on their web site. Just add your ingredients to that list. Since you will be selling, I would also recommend getting a liability insurance and business license and a resale license if you city requires it.

thank you for your responce. when i looked at the soapqueen tv posts she said that ultramarines and oxides were natural, so now im a little confused.

i guess i was just looking for a good soap that didnt have a lot of stuff in it that smelled fresh and still made you feel moisturized. because my husband also has sensitive skin and cant use a lot of other artifically scented products with tons of stuff in it ( like a lot bath n body works stuff)

since the organic base is not even natural, is there any other brambleberry clear base thats better for moisturizing?

Ultramarines are pigments and minerals. They're not carbon based. Some metals are combined with oxygen to create a substance that will add color to your soaps. I would not consider them natural, but you are entitled to your own decision what is or isn't natural.

For someone with sensitive skin, I would use the MP bases as is; no color, no scent, no added oils or butters.
