Hi all,

lately I've been soaping with 25% water discount instead of the usual 38% and I'm happy with the result.

just wondering that up to how much is safe to superfat for my recipe?
I'd prefer more than 5% sf, the less lye the better(just trying to have lower PH ), I'm just afraid of DOS with higher sf

here's my recipe:

sweet almond 5%
castor 5%
coconut 25%
cocoa butter 15%
olive oil 40%
sunflower oil 10%

water discount 25%

You can do a 7% superfat, but it won't change your pH. DOS usually happens with old oils or oils that have a very short shelf life.

oh, ok. I though by using less lye I might get lower ph and I thought higher sf may result in DOS, so much I don't know,lol

If you were able to get a lower pH for handmade soap, you would end up with a lye heavy, greasy mess. For lower pH, syndet bars are the way to go. I make a syndet shampoo bar for my hair that I just love.
